CPU COOLER EKL Alpenföhn BROCKEN 3

Product information – Brocken 3 CPU cooler – 140mm

What do you get when you unite two generations of “Brocken”? That’s right, the Brocken 3 with an even higher level of performance! The CPU cooler has a large heat sink with aerodynamically optimized fins and brushed and anodized top fins, whose fin spacing is designed for silent operation. In combination with the five 6mm heatpipes and the supplied 140mm PWM fan from the Wing Boost 3 series, the cooler can achieve enormous performance. The RockMount 2 mounting system also offers an optimized and less complicated installation of the cooler.

The Alpenföhn Brocken 3 CPU cooler at a glance:

  • Tower cooler with up to 220W TDP cooling capacity
  • Five 6mm heatpipes & optimized cooling fins
  • Wing Boost 3 fan with PWM connector in 140mm format
  • Asymmetrical design of the cooling tower for high RAM compatibility
  • Permafrost high performance thermal paste
  • High compatibility with AMD and Intel
  • RockMount 2 mounting system for uncomplicated installation

Powerful third-generation Alpenföhn Brocken CPU cooler

Overall, the third generation of the well-known and valued Brocken cooler from Alpenföhn is reminiscent of its two predecessors, but thanks to a number of innovations it can overtake its two competitors with even better cooling performance. In doing so, both the own experiences with the very successful chunks 1 & 2 flowed into the design, as well as the feedback from thousands of customers, which reached the Alpenföhn designers by e-mail and via the online community.

A particularly noticeable difference to the direct predecessor is that the twin-tower design has again become a single cooling tower, whose aerodynamically optimized fins with adapted fin spacing ensure significantly better silent properties. Especially in connection with the now used Wing Boost 3 fan in 140 mm format, which has a permanently integrated guide wheel for axial flow alignment, the fan noise could be improved and a swirl minimization of the air flow on the heat sink could be achieved. The result of this is a non-negligible increase in fan performance, which means that the maximum speed could be reduced compared to alternative layouts.

Wing Boost 3 fan (140mm) with PWM connector

The Wing Boost 3 fan impresses above all with its special angle of attack of the fan blades, which means that it has been optimized for a lower speed and, compared to other fans at the same speed, achieves a significantly higher volume flow, higher static pressure and a higher exit speed. In addition, the aerodynamically optimized blade geometry favors the axial flow direction and offers a correspondingly better fanning of the air flow, giving the heat sink more surface area to dissipate.

Of course, the fan in 140 mm format can be connected directly to the built-in mainboard via a PWM connection and rotates at a speed of between 400 and 1050 revolutions per minute depending on the CPU temperature. Equipped with a durable Fluid Dynamic bearing, a maximum airflow of 103 m³/h is generated at full speed and a noise level of just 19 dB. A good draft on the Brocken is therefore taken care of!

Also back is the gapless HDT technology, in which the heat pipes are integrated directly into the copper base plate, resulting in increased heat transfer. In addition, the Brocken 3 uses an asymmetrical cooling tower design, whereby the five silver-plated heat pipes rise so high that the radiator is not exactly centered over the baseplate, but slightly offset to the rear.

In this way, with the vast majority of mainboards on the market, not a single RAM slot is blocked by the cooler, even if the fan – as usual – is mounted at the front and is therefore blowing in. So nothing stands in the way of a full RAM configuration. All boards that have the AMD sockets AM5, AM4, AM3(+), AM2(+), FM2(+) and FM1 or the Intel sockets 775, 1366, 115x and 2011(V3) can be used as mainboards. Thanks to the RockMount 2 mounting system, installing the Brocken 3 is even easier.

Further information The WingBoost3 has a “plus function”. This means that a Y-switch for a second PWM fan was attached to the PWM connector. Thanks to this switch, another PWM fan can now also be controlled via a PWM signal from the board and does not have to be connected via a cable adapter or a 3-pin connector. Important: When using WingBoost3 fans, up to 3 additional fans can be connected to just one PWM signal on the board.
Notice Asymmetrical design of the heat sink for more RAM compatibility, 3rd generation WingBoost fan with guide wheel for axial flow alignment and minimal swirl of the air flow for whisper-quiet operation
